The Movement- Vanessa’s April Blog

This year I was really excited to lead The Movement project for Minnesota. The Movement is an international fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in which all of DECA can participate.  This project has been organized by former Oklahoma State Officer, Jay Koontz, and National Officer Team 66.  The ultimate goal of The Movement is to raise the bar in terms of what the world thinks students can accomplish.  This goal can be reached by having DECA chapters collectively raise $1,000,000 for MDA in one school year.  However, it is being piloted this year.  The overall goal for 2011-2012 is for DECA chapters to collectively raise $100,000 more for MDA than they did last year.  The strategy to accomplish this goal involved finding at least 8 chapters to commit to raising $500 MORE than what they raised for MDA last year.  We had 10 schools take interest with our four biggest participants being Chanhassen ($500), Chaska ($1,000), Coon Rapids ($900) and Elk River ($7,000)!  We had fundraising ideas from a full on 5K run to an evening event filled with talent and give aways.  Any fundraising done for MDA is a great accomplishment, though, it helps send kids to Camp Courage!!!  Visit http://www.mdausa.org/ for more information or to send in your donations!  And contact me, Vanessa Panchyshyn @ Vanessa.panchyshyn@mndeca.org for any comments or questions regarding The Movement!  WAY TO GO MINNESOTA DECA and National Team 66!!!

Vanessa Panchyshyn is the Vice President of Communications at Minnesota DECA.
